A story idea by Will Smith, where he and his son Jaden Smith are the two main characters, and they are ones that appear on screen most of the time, basically for almost the whole movie.
This story plot line surrounds a ship landing on earth, because of a mechanical error they needed to land and earth is the only place available. Earth was contaminated once, and not a good place for humans to live, so they move to another planet far away. Years later this ship and it’s crew is force to have a rough landing on this dangerous planet, and the only survivals are Kitai (Jaden Smith) and Cypher (Will Smith). Kitai is forced to send a radio signal to his planet. There’s not enough communication with the outside world, and his father is severely injured. He is alone to fight the dangers on earth, where the oxygen levels are low, and the nights are extremely cold.
After Earth might not be the best movie out there, but still it have it’s good points. The cinematography was very nice shoot, and the technology shown was incredible. It was so cool to watch those suits that change of colors when someone is in bad shape, or there is danger nearby. The movie felt short,I think they could maybe add more, the story is very basic. They maybe could add more history of why things where that way, it really make me wanting to know that. This movie is perfect for a prequel and maybe that one would be more interesting with more characters, and more story. There where things that left me wanting to understand why things happen? There’s a movie novelization by Peter David that I hope it will explain this, the novel is call the same, it could be found on amazon.
Jaden Smith always appear in movies with his father (Will Smith) or her mother (Jada Pinkett-Smith), acting run in the family. But that doesn’t mean Jaden Smith is a great actor as Will Smith, he still need to work on it. This didn’t made the movie less enjoyable, his acting was pretty descent but I just think he could make it better. All the movies that he appear had been with their parents help, and that’s pretty understandable considering they are great actors in the business.
Overall, this movie is not as bad as they said. It was an enjoyable movie and it’s worth the go. The theme of the movie might appear to be very used recently, but this is a movie like no other.
